Description
SimpleScan is a text-based speaking communication aid intended for people who are able to read and who want to use synthetic speech. This includes patients with ALS, cerebral palsy and motor aphasia.
Text is input then voiced by keyboard, mouse, switches or eye-gaze. Several variants of Row Column Scanning Alternative Code combine with subtle text prediction, abbreviation expansion and simple stored text.
Supported languages are Dutch, English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish.
Alternative Code allows fast input with either one, two or three switches and can be effected with eyes closed in a few hours. As it is presented on screen, little training is needed. One switch is also possible if the user can press it for short and long periods of time. The empty first column of the scanning matrix allows to input at ease and reduces errors. Presentation on screen and voices can be customised.
