Description
The MPEG-2 Video Extension enhances Windows 10 to let you play more file types on all your devices – without having to leave your favorite app. If you have MP4 or MKV video files that don’t play, this extension will likely help. Specifically, this extension enables media apps on Windows 10, such as Microsoft Movies & TV, to play MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 videos. Included codecs: • MPEG-1 Video Codec • MPEG-2 Video Codec MPEG-2 is used on DVDs and was standard in digital cameras from the early 2000s. If you have unplayable videos with file extensions such as .mpeg, .mpg, .ts, .m2ts, .mkv, and .avi, this might make them playable. Please note that this extension by itself does not enable DVD playback for optical drives.

Good on you MS by Edwin
Tried to play an old file, MS video player said a codec was missing... I was then SHOCKED that it asked to download the codec, asked for my account PIN, then downloaded and installed the codec DIRECTLY FROM MS, without closing the video app and played the video. I was imagining having to hunt for the codec and then go through some creepy install method, as were the days of old with Windows' software. MS, you are doing great... more seamless experiences like this will make you remain at the top of the game.

Truly amazing by Dayday
For years I've been waiting for someone to find a way to play drm encrypted channels(MTV, AMC...)via the hdhomerun app. The last time I opened the hdhomerun app it prompted me to install this extension. Since then I've been able to play all 800 channels picked up by my hdhomerun prime. To the engineers who pulled this off you guys deserve some serious kudos.

I can finally browse for and watch my old videos easily by Jim
I have an old video camera that records in mpeg2 format. used it for years when my kids were babies. then smart phone videos became the norm. once mpg2 support was dropped from native windows, I began using VLC to watch those videos. but the thumbnails in file explorer don't show when vlc is the default 'open with' (or i didn't know how to make them do it), so it made it a pain to browse the gazillions of videos of my kids. now, i can use windows native program to view the videos, AND the thumbnails are there in file explorer. this makes it soooo much easier to peruse my video collection and find good ones to watch. I'm so happy about this! thanks for stepping up and making this so easy, Microsoft. a long awaited capability has finally returned to the OS I love. according to the description, this doesn't help with DVD movies, but does anyone watch DVD's any more? and there's always VLC for that anyway. so again, thank you for this. AND IT WAS FREE?!?! even better.

Adorable! by Evgeny
It works perfect!!! I prefer Movies & TV for playing videos, movies on my PC now. It works more faster than KMPlayer, doesn't have any advertising. I use it always now!
