Over a year ago, ChatGPT sparked a public fascination with generative AI, ushering in an era where AI-infused consumer products proliferated, spanning from video creators to productivity enhancers, creative aids, and even virtual companions.
Six months prior, we delved into web traffic analytics to sieve through the clutter and identify the most sought-after generative AI web offerings based on monthly visits. This endeavor revealed consumer adoption patterns and highlighted early standouts like ChatGPT and Midjourney.
Yet, the AI landscape has remained dynamic, with fresh AI-centric startups springing up monthly, fostering a fiercely competitive market.
Now, revisiting the data landscape six months later, we've refreshed our analysis, leveraging SimilarWeb insights (as of January 2024) to once again rank the top 50 AI-driven web products. The findings are striking: over 40% of the current top 50 are new entrants, a stark contrast to our initial report from September 2023.
Notably, our approach this time has evolved. Unlike before, where we initially ranked web companies by traffic and then incorporated mobile app data, we've now segregated web and mobile generative AI products into distinct lists.
For mobile apps, we've ranked them according to monthly active users, drawing from Sensor Tower data (January 2024). This separation enables us to comprehensively explore the landscape of top AI mobile apps for the first time, revealing intriguing disparities in how users engage with generative AI on web versus mobile platforms, which we will delve into subsequently.
